This may look like a fairly bland job listing as it Project Manager for Game Experience for Stadia. However this one is going to take some explanation on how this quite significant. Over the last year and half there seems to have been a little disconnect between YouTube and Stadia portions of the Google business.
We have had YouTube distance themselves from Stadia because of the Alex Hutchinson situation of a number of months ago. YouTube not featuring the Stadia controller or generally talk about Stadia when mentioning gaming. It has come across as the two different entities are living in separate silos.
This job listing looks like it is trying to bridge the gap between the two parts of Google. The key components of the job are :
Evolve the product vision and strategy for Stadia/YouTube.
Work closely with Engineering, UX, Partner Engineering, Business Development, Legal, and other functions to assess product priorities, establish a roadmap and author detailed product requirements.
Represent the YouTube Creator in Stadia’s product strategy and prioritization processes.
The thing to notice with this listing is that YouTube is doing the hiring not Stadia. That again may look at little facetious but it is not meant to be. Silos happen and this looks like a way to break them down. Stadia has a relationship with YouTube as Stadia is integrated into YouTubes fibre. Crowd Play, Crowd Choice all operate through it.
A number of people in the Stadia community have been calling for a closer working relationship between YouTube and Stadia and this looks like this will be a welcome first step.
