Cloudy with a Chance of Games

Microsoft have confirmed, via The Verge, that development of the xCloud iOS app is no longer happening. While they have not said why this is the case it is thought that the reason is due to Apples iOS App Store policies. Cloud gaming on iOS at this present time is difficult with Shadow being the only main player in this space who has an iOS app.

Stadia is also having this difficultly. At present, you cannot stream your games from Stadia’s iOS app. You can only make purchases and service your account. This is another blow to cloud gamers on iOS. We ran a poll yesterday on Twitter to see if cloud gaming is affecting your next choice of mobile and the results where neck and neck.

xCloud launches on September 15th and will launch with over 100 games. We know a selection of what games are launching on xCloud including some big hitters like Halo, Gears of War, Sea of Thieves, and the new hit title in Grounded.

Microsoft have said already that they are upgrading the xCloud to Xbox Series X hardware next year. There is also an xCloud PC app in development that Windows Central has tested. xCloud is moving full steam ahead and we don’t have long to wait for when it launches.

I have been playing since the Commodore 64 days and have basically played every console going since then including the Ouya! I have been a fan of cloud gaming since the Onlive days and that was my favorite platform. Cloud gaming will revolutionize how we play games going forward and it is just a matter of time when it takes off.
