Cloudy with a Chance of Games

Sometimes if you go hunting for some information about Stadia and you can stumble onto something mildly interesting like today when we discovered that Stadias first-party offering will be Gaas (Games as a Service). This is not unexpected as it has been hinted and nodded at whenever first-party offerings have been mentioned before. The job listing for an Associate Producer for Second Party in Munich states:-

Stadia Games & Entertainment focuses on creating service games based on Stadia’s unique features. Innovation, Quality and Building Lasting Communities are the pillars of our Studio(s).

This can lead to a lot of speculation but it is clear that it says service-based games. GaaS games can be roughly be described as games which just keep going on and evolve. Some examples of Gaas games are GTAV, The Division 2, Fortnite, Warframe, Destiny 2 etc. Stadia is a perfect fit for GaaS games because it is a cloud-based service and hard drive space is not going to be an issue going forward.

I have been playing since the Commodore 64 days and have basically played every console going since then including the Ouya! I have been a fan of cloud gaming since the Onlive days and that was my favorite platform. Cloud gaming will revolutionize how we play games going forward and it is just a matter of time when it takes off.
