We were fortunate enough to get a code from Square Enix for Marvel’s Avengers for Stadia and we have had our first look at it. From my playthrough of the game so far the game is performing well and is really enjoyable. We have played around 2 hours of the game and played a number of story missions. As there would not be a high player count for multiplayer till later we did not check out that portion of the game.
You can select either a High Framerate or High-Resolution mode for the game. With our two looks at the game, we decided to go with High Framerate as this I feel is the best way to play games on Stadia. I did encounter a number of drops however there is nothing earth-shattering wrong and for the most part, it felt and looked great. Note on the videos I had so issues with the color being a little darker than it should be and had issues with my mic during the first play-through till I changed it.
Marvel’s Avengers is a what a game should be and that is fun. So many times some people get wrapped up into game mechanics, story telling and everything and forget that games are meant to be fun. Playing the game I was smiling the whole way through (even with the tech issues when streaming!). Avengers is as simple or complex as you want to make it. In my case it is lets just go have some fun as an Avenger.
There are layers of complexity like in Destiny 2 were you can level up your characters the way you choose with gear. However if you not really wanting to worry about those mechanics you can auto-level up you gear and the game chooses the best for your characters. By adding this into the game takes away some of the complications people find when playing grinding games.
So with just the story missions, The Avengers is shaping up to be a great game. While it may not appeal to everyone it is a lot of mindless fun and a game just to come home from a hard day’s work and relax too. We will bring another update at a later to discuss multiplayer aspects.
