Cloudy with a Chance of Games

Stadia has had a very rough start to 2021 to say the least. There were some ups and downs for sure. With the announcement that Stadia will come preloaded on LG and other smart TV’s, that should have been a big win for the platform. However, it was later announced in a blog post that Stadia’s first party studios (Stadia Games & Entertainment) in Montreal, and Playa Vista would be shut down, as well as Stadia R & D. As a result, over 150 employees lost their jobs, Jade Raymond walked away from the platform, and Typhoon Studios was closed as well.

This was disheartening news to say the least. It also came to light (via Kotaku) that Phil Harrison sent an email a week before the firings on February 1st that they were proud of the work they have done. Now, this has been discussed on many different shows, and posts, so there’s no need to rehash it here.

Turning the page
