Capcom’s Annual Report has been revealed and it has some interesting information in it. Firstly from a cloud gaming perspective it has some interesting wording throughout the document. Capcom already supports cloud gaming with Luna and they have revealed in there report that they see streaming games as future but won’t have a real impact to them until the medium term. Also they mention that the Subscription based services will become more commonplace. Again with Luna you can play Resident Evil VII on the platform. They are the latest publisher to come out to say that subscription based services will become more commonplace.
The key quotes for me is : –
In the medium term, we see the digital market expanding rapidly in Asia and new game delivery methods such as streaming and subscriptions performing well. As such, we expect the market to grow to 53.2 billion dollars by 2024 (up 51.6% compared to 2019).
Along with there SWOT Analysis
What does this mean? In my opinion this means that at this time the gaming marketplace is about to go under a massive change in the coming years. The move to cloud gaming is now inevitable as more and more publishers are coming out to say this. Capcom are second publisher this year, after Square Enix, to say cloud is the future.
Capcom will bringing their games to cloud gaming platforms. So it is likely we will see Resident Evil series on more cloud platforms including Stadia. When is the question.
The subscription model is raising its head again and this is another indication that gaming is heading to a sub based model for some things. This will be welcomed by some , myself included, and frowned about by others. I personally feel sub models will ultimately bring gaming for all as barriers will be reduced further.
